Small Pools

Small Pools 28 00'33 N 34 24'26 E

The small pools are an area of sewage works that for some reason is completely fenced off. We are not sure why or the consequences of being caught within the fenced area but it does produce a slightly different environment to the main Sharm Pools. The area only consists of nine settlement pools but at present they are extremely overgrown with reeds. This means that there is much more cover for the birds to settle within, another observation we have made is the water quality seems much higher. The area is west of the airport and very little construction has started around them as yet. The desert area around the fences should be good for desert and hoopoe lark as well as common crow. The reeds will hopefully attract warblers and buntings on there way through. This is a new area for us so we will report each time we go. One species that should be year round are the Spanish Sparrow which had eluded us till we visited here.

The area also has various unfinished buildings that could be useful as hides. The ducks that we have experienced in the Sharm area are all very timid and so any cover will be very helpful in allowing observation without putting them to flight.
